We offer a highly academic and nurturing environment for students 6 weeks to 5 years old, as well as a private kindergarten. TMA’s use of the proven Montessori Method, combined with the educational preparation that Balanced Literacy provides, and a culture based on Christian values, offers young learners a premium educational experience that is so much more than a daycare!
OUR CLASSES
INFANT

6 weeks–12 months
5 full days
Our infant rooms accommodate non-mobile or crawling infants in a peaceful, homelike classroom environment. The environment includes soft rugs, muted colors, and developmentally appropriate furniture and materials where the child can safely explore under the guidance of loving adult caregivers. Teachers read and sing to children, and low shelves contain a variety of books and age appropriate materials for children to explore on their own. There is a separate, peaceful sleeping area with a crib for each child.

TMA’s toddler classrooms safely support our young learners’ drive to do things alone, helping to develop confidence and a sense of competence. Children work independently, explore freely, and express their curiosity and creativity. Teachers read aloud to students daily, begin to teach letter identification and sounds, and children are encouraged to explore reading and language materials on their own. There are restrooms in all classrooms, which allow us to teach toilet awareness and use when the child is ready, and independence with hand washing, nose wiping and other personal hygiene skills. Low tables and small chairs in classrooms allow children to help prepare, serve, eat, and clean up their snacks and meals.

primary

In our primary classrooms, we use a hands-on approach to learning in five areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science/Culture.
Practical Life teaches students daily-life skills, such as how to get dressed, prepare snacks, set the table, and care for plants and animals. They also learn appropriate social interactions, such as saying please and thank-you, being kind and helpful, listening without interrupting, and resolving conflicts peacefully.
Sensorial refines students’ skills in perceiving the world through their different senses, and how to describe those experiences, developing the ability to classify, sort, and discriminate—skills necessary in math, geometry, and language.
Mathematics teaches students to identify numerals and match them to their quantity, understand place-value and the base-10 system, and practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and explore patterns all through hands-on activities.
Language Arts helps children acquire vocabulary and develop skills needed for writing and reading. Children learn letter sounds, how to combine sounds to make words and how to use a pencil and practice letter formation.
Cultural and Science includes history, geography, science, art, and music.
Each day, the students will be exposed to journal writing, shared/interactive writing, shared and independent reading. Our literacy and Montessori specialists work closely with the teachers and students to ensure all students are prepared for kindergarten.

Our TK and K students serve as role models for younger students at TMA. They focus on the same 5 areas of study; Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language Arts, and Science/Culture, and are introduced to progressively more advanced Montessori materials and sophisticated lessons. Our TK/K classroom has a strong influence of Balanced Literacy, including the reading and writing workshops. Each day, the students will be exposed to journal writing, shared/interactive writing, shared reading, independent reading and eventually guided reading. Our literacy and Montessori specialists work closely with the teachers and students to ensure all students are prepared for their elementary years.
